As a clinical Social Worker, I provide evidence-based counselling to individuals who have experienced trauma, mental health concerns, or relationship issues.
I believe that therapy should be a collaborative, nonjudgmental, and empowering process where we work together to enhance your skill set to cope with whatever challenges you are going through. I want to help individuals not only survive, but thrive in a life worth living. With each client, I create a specialized case plan based on your goals using evidence-based models of treatment. I do this in order to have the most effective therapy that helps you feel relief faster.
I have gained specialized skills for working with trauma survivors through both hospital and community experience. Most recently, I provided group and individual therapy at the Post-Traumatic Stress Response Unit of the Homewood Health Centre which is a voluntary inpatient program for first responders, survivors of physical or sexualized violence, and other experiences of trauma. I have worked with many first responders dealing with PTSD, depression, anxiety, or other comorbid concerns.
My preferred modality for individuals who have experienced trauma is Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), as it can result in dramatic shifts in PTSD symptoms within 12 sessions. Trauma has a way of shifting our beliefs about ourselves and the world. You may believe you are to blame for what happened or that the world is a dangerous place. These kinds of thoughts keep you stuck in your PTSD symptoms and restrict your life. CPT helps you learn how to examine the facts surrounding our thoughts and beliefs to look for new more balanced perspectives.
